5 Reasons Why Kids Don't Like Practicing Music

  1. 1
. They don't know what or how to practice
  2. 2
    . The material is boring
  3. 3
. They don't have a tangible or exciting way to see progress
  4. 4
. They are taught only to COPY instead of CREATE like they instinctively want to
  5. 5
. Their teacher is boring, uninspiring, and sets a low standard of excellence

Best decision we ever made!!

“We had been looking for quite some time and trying different classes and browsing, until we met Preston. Our daughter had classes in the past with other teachers and schools, but we didn't see any progress... Since our first meeting with Preston, we were amazed how he had a different approach and was engaging and dedicated to teaching. Our daughter was so excited that she couldn't wait to start her first lesson.

“She has been taking lessons for 3 months, and we are amazed at what she has learned and how her life is so affected with everything she has learned so far. She found herself in guitar! Watching her every time she comes home from class with so much excitement and motivation to do more makes us so happy. I can't wait to see what will be in the next 3 months.”

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the best guitar to begin with?

For smaller kids (under 5-7) they do much better with a 3/4 size guitar. As far as an acoustic or electric type of guitar, it's ALWAYS better to go with the one that excites them the most so they are more motivated to practice. If they aren't sure yet which one they will like we are happy assess this in your free consultation.

Is my kid too young to learn how to play the guitar?

The youngest we work with is 5 yrs old but it depends on maturity and focus ability of the student.

Will my kid learn to read music?

Yes. There are 3 main ways to read music. We'll start them on the easiest and as we build competence and skills move them through harder notations.

I heard it's best to start kids on the piano first. Is that true?

This is a myth. (Probably started by the piano teachers...)
It's best to start on whichever instrument your kids is most excited to learn as they will be more motivated to practice and earn their skills.

How does scheduling work?

It depends on the type of program the student is in but our most popular program has a FLEX SCHEDULE which means you can move your lesson day/time to accommodate your schedule with at least 12 hr notice. Most of our lessons are after 4pm

How much are lessons?

Unlike traditional music lessons with a 1 size fits all approach we have many programs, various formats (online, in-person, or both) and frequency options so it will depend. Contact us to day and we'd be happy to see if SLC Guitar is right for you!

What if "I" the parent don't know anything about guitar?

Totally normal!

Our system makes it really easy for parents so they know exactly how to support / help their kids at home so they succeed.
